2015 Patient Seminar

ESGO’s European Network of Gynaecological Cancer Advocacy Groups - ENGAGe was delighted to organise another successful Patient Seminar during the 19th ESGO Congress in Nice, France under the theme 'magnifying the patient voice'.

The 3rd Patient Seminar again was aimed at leaders of patient groups with patient advocacy a key topic again this year.  Advocacy continues to be a key driver in changing the public health landscape and the patient voice plays an increasingly important role in providing key insights about disease, treatment and quality of life for researchers and policy makers when priorities need to be set.

The seminar was co-chaired by John Green, ENGAGe Chair and Isabel Mortara, ENGAGe Coordinator who extended a warm welcome to all congress participants and invited everyone to join them for a day of learning, networking & making new acquaintances.

The 2015 Patient Seminar boasted another exciting program with notable speakers and relevant for gynae cancer advocacy patient groups, cancer leagues and other groups with an interest in gynae cancer. The morning program focused on trends & hot topics in research, the status of prevention & screening in Europe and the latest in innovations & treatment options.

Our best practices marketplace sessions in the afternoon, included social media sessions for both beginners & advanced users. Unique to the seminar was the special session about Cancer in the workplace, which raised the question if employment discrimination laws protected employees with cancer. A patient’s first-hand experience was heard including what the current European landscape looked like concerning this issue. Last but not least, the final session will focus on ‘Advocacy in Action’ with a diverse panel of speakers addressing how advocacy influences health policy in Europe.
