ENGAGe voices in ESGO Guidelines

We are proud and excited that ENGAGe patient experts are now actively involved in the development of ESGO guidelines. This is a significant achievement and an important step forward in ensuring that the patient voice is heard and considered when clinical recommendations are created.

By including patient experts in the guideline process, ESGO recognizes that high-quality care is not only based on clinical and scientific evidence, but also on the lived experience, priorities, and needs of patients. This collaboration helps make guidelines more relevant, understandable, practical, and sensitive to what truly matters to women affected by gynaecological cancers.

CC Guidelines Meeting

For each ESGO guideline, one to two ENGAGe representatives are invited to join the working group. They take part in meetings, contribute to discussions, and share patient expert input throughout the project.

It ensures that the patient perspective is considered alongside medical expertise, especially on topics such as quality of life, communication, survivorship, follow-up care, and the everyday challenges patients may face.

ENGAGe also nominates about 10-20 patient expert reviewers for each ESGO guidelines. These reviewers provide feedback on draft guidelines from the patient perspective, helping to assess whether the recommendations are clear, relevant, feasible, and sensitive to patients’ needs.

Their contribution strengthens the final guidelines by ensuring that recommendations are not only scientifically sound, but also meaningful and practical.
