World Gynecologic Oncology Day 2026: the largest yet!
We are delighted to highlight the resounding success of the 8th World Gynecologic Oncology Day and its strong alignment with ESGO's overarching EU policy objectives.
Established in 2019 by ESGO and ENGAGe, World Gynecologic Oncology Day has grown exponentially year after year. This global campaign plays a vital role in advancing gynaecological cancer prevention while actively combating the surrounding social stigma.
The 2026 campaign in numbers:
- 406 events registered on the website
- 235 participating organisations worldwide
- 63 countries involved
- 40+ languages represented
- 10+ EU officials posting messages of support
This year's campaign reached a wider audience and made a significant mark on the political stage, backed by supportive messages from 10 Members of the European Parliament and two European Commissioners, as well as the patronage of the European Parliament.
We were also pleased to feature blog posts written specifically for the World Gynecologic Oncology Day website by three MEPs. You can read there contributions below.
Translating political support into action
To translate this political momentum into lasting structural change, ESGO and ENGAGe urge EU policymakers to integrate gynaecological cancers across all key European health, research, and economic policies.
This requires:
- Prioritising gynaecological cancer care as part of the ongoing implementation of Europe's Beating Cancer Plan.
- Giving prime importance to women's oncology in upcoming initiatives on women's health, including the upcoming study on the socio-economic impact of women's health announced in the European Commission's Gender Equality Strategy 2026-2030
- Allocating targeted resources for rare gynaecological malignancies by expanding European Reference Networks (ERNs)
- Prioritising specialised research under Horizon Europe to advance early diagnostic techniques
- Leveraging Europe's biotechnology and competitiveness agendas to incentivise clinical trials on women-specific diseases and accelarate patient access to cutting-edge therapies.
We extend our sincere thanks to our valued members, the broader ESGO and ENGAGe communities, and the European Union for your engagement, contribution, and support in making this year's campaign our biggest yet.
